Companies that specialise in offering delivery services and courier in Ireland and different parts of the world are keen on adopting programs that would substantially reduce the effect of their activities on the surrounding environment. A large number of courier operators have decided on creating an inventory comprising vehicles that run on alternative fuels along with their current fleet.  This has been done in a bid that they can now keep an eye on the carbon dioxide emissions.

There are several international parcel delivery services that have implemented carbon offsetting programs. However, these have not managed to curb the root of the problem, the harmful emissions. The movement of the parcels is not solely responsible for their creation. A major portion of these emissions are created as a result of the lighting and heating of the premises,  the place that acts as a base for these courier companies as carry out their tasks of sorting and dispatching the deliverables.

However, it is measure the increase in efficiency in such a controlled environment. But the difficulty compounds when it comes to thinking of a better alternative for operating the cars, vans, trucks, and planes. Companies still have a long way to go in this regard.

Companies have tried their bit though with some of them already going for trial of vehicles that operate on alternative fuels. These obviously include vehicles that are powered by electricity. With more and more research and development work going on in the field, it is expected that a solution would be found in near future. The thing that has really made a difference is the fact that courier companies do not consider extending carbon-neutral services as a far-off option and thus an environment-friendly delivery service does not seem to be a far-fetched reality in the coming years.
