When you own and operate a small business of any kind, you know that you have to go that extra mile all of the time in order to bring in the customers and do your best to make regulars out of them. When your business is conducted in a small building that has its own front entrance, this can be a plus when you can decorate your windows and maybe even have road sign to draw them in. You also know that advertising is a big part of how many customers are made aware of what your business offers, but that store front and the appeal it has is also great for bringing in those spur of the moment clients that had not planned on stopping.

Keeping your store front looking fresh and clean is a must. No matter what you are selling or service that you offer, people want to feel like they are welcome before they even get out of their car and they enjoy going into a business that looks like the owner takes great care with the appearance of their store.

During the winter time this can be a challenge especially if you business is set up in a region that can get great amounts of rain and snow during the cold months. When and if you only have a few parking spots available in front of your small business, you still want your customers to have a safe and easy in and out access to your store.

One way to ensure this is to have an awning placed over the door of your business so that when people are entering or exiting they do not have to get wet. If you notice a customer pulling into your store and they do not have an umbrella, be ready and greet them with one as they are coming in. People who are visiting you on their lunch break will be very impressed and appreciate the fact that you have gone that extra mile for them just by greeting them at their car with an umbrella. If they are on the way out of your store, do the same thing.

Keeping your parking spaces and the walkway into your store front door is not only easier for the customer to get in and out of your store, but it can also save you from a lawsuit if they fall and it is your property. No one wants to get out of their car in their good shoes and step out into a foot of snow or a deep puddle of water.

Small courtesies are such a huge part of helping any small business to survive. People remember good manners and personal service in any business they visit. Manners and good service do not add any overhead to your business so why not give them freely and cheerfully to each customer?
